About Us

Ohio Honyaku is a group of independent and in-house translators, interpreters, consultants, and language professionals who use both Japanese and English on a daily basis.

Our varied membership comes from Ohio and three states surrounding Ohio (PA, KY, MI) and includes freelance medical, technical, biomedical, pharmaceutical, and patent translators in addition to a growing number of members who work in automotive manufacturing, which has a large presence in Ohio. We meet quarterly in Columbus, Ohio to exchange information about our profession and a broad range of topics related to Japan.

Discussion topics from recent meetings included:
– How AI (artificial intelligence) and IOT (the internet of things) is likely to affect manufacturing in the future
– How  interpreters can educate the people who use their services
– What qualities interpreters need
– Development of a translation quality management (TQM) model for an organization that used multiple translators
– Rapid growth of robots in manufacturing and other areas that enable companies to replace human workers
